President Trump and his son, Eric, has fulfilled the dying wish of a terminally ill man from Connecticut, thanks to the help from his sister who happens to be an elected Democrat.
Jay Barrett, of West Haven, who is suffering from cystic fibrosis, started palliative care at his sister’s home after he left a hospital last weekend.
The 44-year-old, however, had just one wish – to contact President Trump before he leaves this world.
Barrett’s sister, Bridgette Hoskie, who is West Haven City Councilwoman and calls herself “100 percent Democrat” took to social media to make it happen.
Following her effort, several of their friends, as well as other supporters, sent requests to the White House on its online petition system.
And the man’s wish actually became a reality with a surprise phone call on Tuesday evening from President Trump.
When Hoskie gave the phone to him, Barrett heard someone saying: “I’m the secretary for the president of the United States. Do you have time to talk to him?”
The 44-year-old couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Alright Jay, you look handsome to me. I just saw a picture of you,” President Trump started the conversation via the phone call which was later shared on the internet.
Barrett replied: “Oh, you’re giving me kind honors. I look like sh–.”
His impromptu reply prompted the president to laugh. “How are you doing? How is it going Jay? … You’re a champ. You’re fighting it right?” Trump asked.
“That’s what the Irish do — right?” Barrett replied.
“Yeah that’s what the Irish do — you better believe it,” the president said.
“Mr. President, through thick and thin, you know there’s been a lot of thicks, and there’s been a lot of thins, I support you,” the man told the president.
“I wish you could come to a rally. I wish you could come,” Trump said. “I know you like that stuff and I wish you could. … It sounds like you have a great sister, Jay.”
The president also promised Barrett that whenever he has a rally nearby, he will “be sitting front, row center.”
“I know where you live,” Trump said, before adding: “You’re my kind of man, Jay. … I’m very proud of you. I’ll talk to you again, Jay, OK?
“You keep that fight going. We both fight.”
Barrett has also gotten calls from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regional chief Lynne Patton and Eric Trump on Monday.
Eric “told me they’re pulling for me and praying,” Barrett said.
