President Donald Trump and environmental activist Greta Thunberg both attended the World Economic Forum’s 50th annual meeting in Davos.

President Trump announced the United States would join an initiative to plant one trillion trees. However, Greta said planting one trillion trees wouldn’t be enough to address climate change.
An hour after Trump’s speech, Greta said: “Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fueling the flames by the hour, and we are telling you to act as if you loved your children above all else.”
Greta called for an immediate end to fossil fuel investments while Trump talked about the economic importance of oil and gas in his speech. He also called climate change activists the “heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune tellers.”
Trump said in his speech: “These alarmists always demand the same thing – absolute power to dominate, transform and control every aspect of our lives – the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune tellers.”
“We’re committed to conserving the majesty of God’s creation and the natural beauty of our world,” he added.
While Greta said in her speech: “You say children shouldn’t worry… don’t be so pessimistic and then, nothing, silence. Planting trees is good of course, but it is nowhere near enough of what is needed, and it cannot replace real mitigation and rewilding nature.”
“I wonder, what will you tell your children was the reason to fail and leave them facing… climate chaos that you knowingly brought upon them? That it seemed so bad for the economy that we decided to resign the idea of securing future living conditions without even trying?”
“I’m not a person that can complain about not being heard. The science and voice of young people is not the center of the conversation, but it needs to be”, she added.
