President Donald Trump lashed out at former national security advisor John Bolton as he called him “one of the dumbest people” in Washington.
Trump’s comments followed after the former security aide criticized pardoned General Michael T. Flynn who suggested martial law should be imposed in battleground states to redo the election.
Taking aim at Bolton, Trump tweeted: “What would Bolton, one of the dumbest people in Washington, know? Wasn’t he the person who so stupidly said, on television, ‘Libyan solution’, when describing what the US was going to do for North Korea? I’ve got plenty of other Bolton ‘stupid stories’”point 607 | 1
Previously, Bolton, who served as the 27th United States National Security Advisor, blasted the idea of imposing martial law after Flynn appeared on Newsmax to urge the president to “take military capabilities, and he could place them in those [swing states], and basically re-run an election in each of those states”.point 411 | 1
During the interview, Flynn added:
“These people out there talking about martial law like it’s something that we’ve never done.
“Martial law has been instituted 64 times … So, I’m not calling for that, we have a Constitutional process … that has to be followed.”
Following Flynn’s controversial comments, Bolton slammed the pardoned general in an interview with CNN as he called the idea that was reportedly discussed in the Oval Office “appalling.”
“Look, this is appalling. There’s no other way to describe it. It’s unbelievable, almost certainly completely without precedent,” Bolton said.
He added: “Let’s take the idea of putting military capabilities into the swing states and running the election again. There’s a difference between incompetence and malevolence. In Trump’s case, this is incompetence. He’s unfit for the job.”
The former security aide went on to slam Trump as he suggested the president has never read the Constitution or failed to understand it.
“I don’t think he’s ever read the Constitution. If he has, he clearly doesn’t understand it. And if he did understand it at one point, he’s forgotten it,” Bolton said.
