However, it is expected that President Donald Trump’s $4.8 trillion budget proposal will not be welcomed by lawmakers due to the steep reductions in safety net programs.

The budget calls for a 21 percent cut in foreign aid to $44.1 billion and would cut the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention budget by 9 percent.

The reduction will target programs, including some at the National Institutes of Health.

In a statement, Representative John Yarmuth, Democrat of Kentucky and the chairman of the House Budget Committee, accused the president of going back on his word.

He said Trump went back on his word on the budget agreement as he is planning to propose deep cuts to critical programs that help American families and protect the national security.

He said: “Congress will stand firm against this president’s broken promises and his disregard for the human cost of his destructive policies.”

President Trump is also planning to ask for $15.6 billion for the Customs and Border Protection agency, a 7 percent increase and $9.9 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a 23 percent increase.

However, the budget for Medicare is likely to remain the same. It will only reduce spending by targeting what is waste in the program.
