President Donald Trump’s attorney general, William Barr urged him to not tweet about the ongoing legal case as it ‘makes it impossible for me to do my job’.
President Trump has now said that he has a “legal right” to intervene in the legal case.
After Barr said Trump’s tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job”, President Trump tweeted: “This doesn’t mean that I do not have, as president, the legal right to do so, I do, but I have so far chosen not to!”
President Trump interfered in the sentencing of his associate Roger Stone.
After prosecutors urged seven to nine years in prison for Trump’s associate Roger Stone, Trump said in a tweet that it is a “horrible and very unfair situation.”
After Trump’s tweet, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accused him of abusing the power of his office.
Pelosi said that the president has no respect for the rule of law and called it an abuse of power.
She also said that the president is trying to manipulate federal law enforcement to serve his political interests.
Barr said that Trump never asked him to do anything in a criminal case but he should stop tweeting about the ongoing legal case as it ‘makes it impossible for me to do my job’.
He also said that he is not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody whether it’s Congress, a newspaper editorial board, or the president.
He said he would do what he thinks is right.
He urged President Trump not to talk or tweet about the ongoing legal case but Trump refused to do it.
President Donald Trump’s associate Roger Stone was convicted in November of lying to Congress and witness tampering in relation to his work on President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
