Turns out, all of it was done at taxpayers’ expense.

Speaking to an election campaign rally in August 2016, Trump said: “I’m going to be working for you. I’m not going to have time to go play golf.”

And now that three years have passed with him in the Oval Office, he has spent $115 million to keep up with his love for golf, the Huffington Post reported.

Most of the expense falls under the head of travel and security arrangements for the transport of the president.

The president’s movement involves the services of White House staff, special services agents and other administration and security personnel.

This week, the president had fun playing golf at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, marking his 223rd day playing golf since he has been in the office.

As Trump loves to play golf at his own golf courses, housing, and lodging services are provided by his own hotels and resorts. The huge bills of his lavish expenditure are covered from the federal budget.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham denied commenting on any question related to the number of people accompanying the president on his golfing tours and the prices incurred by the state to cover all those tours.

The president is reportedly channeling taxpayers’ money to his own real estate business in a number of ways.

This practice is a violation of the emoluments clause of the constitution which dictates that the president cannot get any benefits other than his salary from the federal or state governments.

One of the promises Trump made when he ran for the president in 2016 was that he won’t take the president’s salary.

He has lived up to his promise and has not taken a single salary so far but has spent 287 years’ worth of his salary for his love of golf. And, there’s still one year left in his term as the president.

As the freedom of information clause is not applicable to the White House, there’s no accurate official figure related to Trump’s golfing expenses.

The data is collected from other sources including the lawsuits against other executive agencies and federal bodies.

Just as an example, ProPublica reported that a night’s stay at Mar-a-Lago costs $546 which is three times what’s allowed by federal rules.

President of the group Public Citizen, Robert Weissman, referred to the president’s golfing as a boon in disguise.

He said: “It’s obviously an incredible waste of money but the more time he spends golfing, the less time he spends governing, the better.”

Surprisingly, the Republicans have been extremely quiet on the president’s extravagant golfing.

A North Carolinian Republican Congressman said that the 100+ million figure is far from being accurate and “there are a lot more important things to worry about than the rounding errors that we sometimes have on these things.”

Jordan Libowitz of the group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington said: “It’s becoming abundantly clear that Donald Trump uses his presidency as a way to put money into his pocket.

“The issue isn’t that he likes golf. The issue is that he has spent a huge amount of his presidency making promotional appearances at his struggling golf courses, and leaving taxpayers to foot the bill.”
