President Trump met Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Tuesday just hours after slamming the company for playing “political games” and reducing his follower count.

After welcoming Dorsey to the Oval Office, he shared a positive message along with a photo of the meeting to Twitter.

“Great meeting this afternoon at the @WhiteHouse with @Jack from @Twitter. Lots of subjects discussed regarding their platform, and the world of social media in general,” the president wrote. “Look forward to keeping an open dialogue!”

Dorsey then replied, “Thank you for the time. Twitter is here to serve the entire public conversation, and we intend to make it healthier and more civil. Thanks for the discussion about that.”

The Washington Post reported that the meeting with Dorsey mainly centered on Trump’s gripe that Twitter had “quietly and deliberately” removed some of his followers. Similar complaints were also heard from fellow conservatives, which Trump reportedly told Dorsey.

Dorsey explained that Twitter had merely been taking steps to cull fraudulent and spam accounts, reports Reuters.

White House counselor Kelly Anne Conway told reporters that Dorsey and the president “had a very productive conversation about keeping the media platforms open for 2020.”

She continued, “The president is very concerned about what he sees as losing followers or people being blocked for certain actions. That’s obvious.”

Trump’s optimistic tweets following the meeting are the opposite of his earlier comments slamming the social media platform. He had started off by quoting Fox Business guest Daniel Ives commenting that Trump was the “best thing” to ever happen to Twitter.

“So true, but they don’t treat me well as a Republican. Very discriminatory, hard for people to sign on. Constantly taking people off the list. Big complaints from many people. Different names-over 100 M….”

He continued, “….But should be much higher than that if Twitter wasn’t playing their political games. No wonder Congress wants to get involved – and they should. Must be more, and fairer, companies to get out the WORD!”

The president has 59.9 million Twitter followers so far but while it wasn’t clear which “different names” he was referring to, in contrast, former President Barack Obama has 106 million followers.

Speaking to NBC News, a Twitter spokesperson said, “Jack had a constructive meeting with the President of the United States today at the president’s invitation. They discussed Twitter’s commitment to protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections and efforts underway to respond to the opioid crisis.”

In July, the New York Times reported that Trump lost 307,606 followers following a “purge” directed at fake accounts.

However, Trump’s gripes about Twitter are nothing new. Just last month, he tweeted that Twitter, along with Facebook and Google, is “sooo on the side of the Radical Left Democrats.”

And in December of last year, he wrote, “Facebook, Twitter, and Google are so biased toward the Dems it is ridiculous! Twitter, in fact, has made it much more difficult for people to join @realDonaldTrump. They have removed many names & greatly slowed the level and speed of increase. They have acknowledged-done NOTHING!”
