Corn and Cob, the two Broad-Breasted White turkeys from Iowa, made their grand debut at the Willard InterContinental hotel in Washington.
Willard InterContinental senior marketing manager Janet Scanlon said at a press conference: “Welcoming these two VIT — very important turkeys — has been a highlight that we look forward to each and every year. I think it really kicks off the holiday season.”
A White House spokesperson confirmed that the president is due to pardon the turkeys on Tuesday and only one of these birds will be a real lucky ducky.
The chairman of the National Turkey Federation expressed his excitement over the turkeys’ introduction.
“I think it’s great to celebrate something that’s happy and something that is for everybody,” Ron Kardel said as the turkeys pranced around before his eyes.
“For me, it’s all for America.”
People can now go online and choose which turkey, Cob or Corn, will appear alongside the president at the ceremony.
According to the White House’s website, Corn loves to eat sweet corn while Cob enjoys soybeans. Corn is a football fan and Cob likes pickleball.
Corn wants to go to the Iowa State Fair while Cob likes to see DC monuments.
Both turkeys were born on June 2 but Corn is heavier, weighing 42lbs while Cob is 41lbs.
Voting is now open for Americans to choose who will be named the official National Thanksgiving Turkey. The fortunate fowl will be announced at Tuesday’s ceremony but neither will be on the table for Thanksgiving.
According to the New York Post, both Turkeys will be taken to the Iowa State University’s Animal Science department after they are pardoned.
