A nurse and her twin sister have both succumbed to the novel coronavirus and passed away just days apart at the same hospital.
37-year-old Katy Davis was a hardworking nurse who worked at Southampton Children’s Hospital before losing her battle with COVID-19 and receiving a touching tribute by her friends and colleagues.
Just three days after the woman’s tragic passing, her twin sister, Emma Davis, who also used to work as a nurse in the past, passed away from coronavirus at the same hospital – the University Hospital Southampton.
As the twins’ sister Zoe revealed in an interview with BBC, her sisters had been living together and suffering from underlying health problems.
“They always said they had come into the world together and would go out together as well. There are no words to describe how special they were,” Zoe told BBC.
Emma’s death followed 72 hours after the passing of Katy who was described as “passionate about reducing harm and putting our patients first” by pediatrician Kate Pryde.
Following Katy’s unexpected passing, her colleagues paid her a touching tribute by clapping for her outside Southampton Children’s Hospital.
Speaking of the hardworking nurse, Claire Shields, Katy’s colleague, said: “Katy was one of the bravest and talented nurses I had the pleasure of knowing. Such a loss, so, so sad.”
Paying a tribute to the dedicated healthcare worker was also Sarah Chittock, a pediatric senior sister, who dubbed Katy “an inspirational nurse.”
“Katy always wore a smile and the most wonderful sparkly eye shadow. Your memory will continue to sparkle in the children’s hospital,” she said.
