All the parents wish for one thing that their children are born healthy and without any disability. But even if a child is born with some physical problem, for his parents, he still would be the cutest child on the planet and they would love him unconditionally more than anything else.
Same is the story of Heather Delaney who gave birth to twins but unfortunately, they were conjoined and were attached at the scalp. But Mrs. Delaney and her husband never lost hope and finally, after 485 days, the children were able to go able after a risky operation.
When Heather Delaney and her husband got married, at first, they didn’t have any plans to have children. But after 11 months, Delaney found out that she was pregnant. That was the happiest moments for both the partners.
They started making plans for their child and started to remodel their home. But after a few months, parents came to know that they will be parents of twins.
Although they were super excited, their excitement didn’t last for long when doctors told them that the twins are attached at the scalp and the chances of their survival are less than just 20%. For both the parents, it was something they might not have ever thought about.
They had never seen any babies conjoined together and now they will be parents of 2 of such kids. The doctor told them, “When it comes to identical twins, 1 in 200 pregnancies and 1 in 49,000-189,000 births result in conjoined twins.”
Heather and her husband remained hopeful and were praying about the health and long lives of their children.point 236 |
Fortunately, the babies were delivered successfully and were named “Abby and Erin”.point 84 | But since they were conjoined, it meant that surgery was needed to be performed which could be very risky as they were attached at the scalp.point 202 | 1
The kids had to stay in the hospital for more than 1 year. And finally, the doctors decided that they will perform the surgery. After 11 hours of operation involving 30 doctors, they were able to successfully detach both the kids.
It was such a happy moment for the parents because after 485 days their kids were going home for the first time.
Now both Abby and Erin have grown up and are living a normal life. Their story is a piece of inspiration for each and every one of us that no matter what the situation is, one should never lose hope.
