People Shared Spooky Paranormal Stories In A Twitter Thread

Journalist Robyn Wilder from London asked her followers: ‘Hey Twitter, what’s the “I don’t believe in ghosts, but…” story from your life?’ and received hundreds of replies.

One man who used to live in an elderly care home shared a spine-chilling story about his encounter with a ‘resident’.   

‘We used to live in an old people’s home (my mom was the manager/warden) – so you’d inevitably get to know some of the old folk living there,’ he wrote.

‘One afternoon, my friend and I were chatting to a nice old lady we knew (we were about 10).

‘We say our goodbyes… My mom has overheard us chatting, asks us who we were speaking to – we tell her. Mom looks blank. “She died two days ago”.

One woman said, her younger self would talk to her ‘invisible friend’ Lilibet.

‘I supposedly had an invisible friend called Lilibet when I was about two. Parents heard me chatting to her on the baby monitor and talking about “Danny”,’ she wrote.

‘Years later I pointed to my great-grandmother in an album and said: “There’s Lilibet”. Her first husband Daniel had died during WWI.’

One woman shared a story of a doctor who was working in the same hospital as her mother.

‘My mom works in a hospital, she told me that one of the doctors was walking through the corridors and he came across a woman who said there was someone having a heart attack nearby and needed his help,’ she wrote.

‘When he got there it was the woman he’d been talking to. He was clearly shaken by it and couldn’t get his head around it. They checked the CCTV and saw him talking but there was nobody else there.’

Meanwhile, another woman shared her experience of things going missing in her house and reappeared in odd places. 

‘Things would go missing, and then days/weeks/months later when you’d given up looking, reappear in obvious places you’d already checked, like in the middle of the carpet. I lived alone,’ she wrote.

‘If it was something you really needed, you could ask loudly for it back and it would be returned.’

One husband shared his terrifying experience waking up in the middle of the night and seeing a ghostly figure he thought was his wife.

‘Holidaying in a spooky old farmhouse, Normandy. During the night, wife (on my LHS) goes to the loo on her side of the pitch-black room,’ he wrote.

‘On return, she walks to my side of the bed, presumably to check baby daughter in a cot. She stands there a while. I reach to left & she is still lying beside me’.

A woman said, she spelled out an eery sentence – but the meaning of it was discovered years later.

‘As a child, I liked playing with magnetic letters on the fridge. One day I wrote, “Teg is here”. No idea why. 

‘A few years later we were looking at the deeds to the house and found it had been built on a field called Teg’s Pieces,’ she wrote.

Meanwhile, one mother saw a spooky figure in her bedroom.

‘Carrying infant son from the bathroom to his bedroom. Glanced in my bedroom as I passed and thought I saw a man sitting on my bed,’ she wrote.

‘Assumed eyes/shadows were playing tricks and said nothing – then my son asked, “who’s the old man sitting on your bed, mommy?”‘.

Another woman shared a creepy story of her childhood how her dog refused to go into one particular room.

‘As a child, we lived in a house in Cornwall that was several hundred years old. 

‘Even after the installation of central heating the back bedroom was always cold and our dog refused to go in there, regardless of bribes, and just stood in the doorway, with hackles raised, growling,’ she wrote.

One woman shared a story of hearing a telephone ringing in the basement of a library she used to work at. 

‘Used to work in a library. Went down to the basement alone to pick up some old books. Phone down there won’t stop ringing. Answer it. Hear nothing but crackling and breathing for ages,’ she wrote.

‘Speak to the manager. Basement phone had been disconnected 6 months earlier.’ 

One person believes he is visited by his father’s spirit who turns on the light for him coming home.  

‘My father always put on the same sidelight in the living room if we were going out at night,’ he wrote.

‘After he died there were several occasions when my mum and I went out and returned home to find the same sidelight had been switched on.’
