The former trainer of Mike Tyson and his long-lasting friend Jeff Fenech has opened up about the boxer’s pet tigers and claimed the Iron Mike once locked him in the cage while the beasts were inside.
Throughout his boxing career, Tyson became well-known for keeping Bengal tigers as his pets and wrestling with them for practice.
As for Fenech, he first came across and befriended the former heavyweight champion in 1988. They remained good friends throughout the decades and worked together in 2005 in an attempt to get Tyson’s career back on feet.
Nowadays, the pair remain good friends whereas Fenech described Tyson as “one of the most loyal and generous guys in the world.”
Despite all the praise, however, Fenech admitted that not all of their moments together were pleasant as he recalled getting locked in the cage with his tigers.
“The first time I went to the house and he had the tiger, Mike had me and threw me in the cage and kind of locked me in there,” Fenech said in an interview with Fox Sports Australia.
“I’m not scared of too many things, but I certainly had to change the undies when I got out of the cage.”
In a recent revelation, 53-year-old Tyson also opened up about his untypical pets and admitted he “was foolish” for “believing they were domesticated.”
“I was foolish. There’s no way you can domesticate these cats 100 percent,” Tyson admitted on Instagram live while talking to rapper Fat Joe about the ‘Tiger King’ documentary.
“I’m just happy I educated myself. I was doing the wrong sh*t. I shouldn’t have had them in my house, believing they were domesticated. I was wrong.”
