A BBC interview where a woman in the beach accused other beachgoers of possibly worsening the pandemic has gone viral online for all the wrong reasons.
Not only was she one of those beachgoers, but also it turned out that she had driven more than an hour to reach the beach.
Viewers and social media users have accused Jane Peacock, the interviewer in question, of being a hypocrite and lacking self-assessment to a comical degree. Talking as if she wasn’t a beachgoer herself, she said it shocked her how many people were out in the beach.
If that wasn’t enough, Peacock went on to say that it annoyed her to see people violating social distancing orders. She even went on to say that people were acting as if they were in Tesco.
We remind you again that this conversation is taking place as the BBC reporter is interviewing the Peacock family, pictured above, were enjoying their time in the beach just like everyone else.
This situation that seems more like a sketch from Monty Python continued, as Jane’s daughter Elle said that there will be a second wave of infections will everybody just outside doing whatever they want to do.
After Prime Minister Boris Johnson eased lockdown measures, it is not illegal for Britons to enjoy the beach as long as they are with their direct family members. Spending overnight at a vacation home is still not allowed.
In other words, neither the Peacock family nor the other beachgoers who they accused of spreading the virus have violated regulations. However, the sheer inaneness and explicit hypocrisy has enraged many users online.
One Twitter user tried to explain the statement from a psychoanalytic viewpoint. This user said that Peacock views herself as above the fray, somehow entitled to do what she is doing. The user went on to argue that ego is what plagues most Britons today.
Another user who identified himself as Jules remarked that he lives just 5 minutes away from the beach but has not gone outside. He went on to sarcastically remark that he will drive 1.5 hours to the Peacock’s house the next time they drive all the way to the beachside.
