0001pt;">UK government has announced that schoolgirls will have access to free pads, and tampons as period poverty is a massive thing and the government is making bids to tackle it.
In a survey, it was found out that 49% of girls have missed at least one day of school because they were not able to afford a sanitary napkin or a tampon and instead of it they sometimes had to use things like a tissue paper or a sock for that matter.
Plan International UK, that had taken the survey also found out that 59% out of the 49 % girls had to lie about why they had missed school because the stigma around the issue is still prevailing.
Michelle Donelan, the children’s minister said “periods are a part of regular life and it does not stop at this age.
Thus, it is never acceptable that a child has to miss a day of a lesson because of this very reason.”
“We know and understand that everyone is not able to have access to period products when they are in need.
This is why this new scheme is going to help young people on living their life without missing out on anything.”
CEO of Plan International UK, Rose Caldwell says “we understand that several young people have to face trouble due to lack of period products and this sometimes even forces them to use tissue paper and socks which is highly unhygienic.”
“Launching this scheme will help the young people live their daily lives without any barrier that keeps them away or forces them to miss out anything.
Now, all we hope is that no one has to miss school especially because of period issues.”
