An unarmed Black man is in critical condition after being shot ten times by the cop who helped him out just an hour before the shooting.
The incident takes place in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, where 32-year-old Isaiah Brown’s car broke down on early Wednesday morning at around 2.30 am.
After the young man found himself stranded at a Route 3 gas station, a Spotsylvania County sheriff’s deputy allegedly offered to take him home, the man’s family told NBC 4 Washington.
According to Tazmon, Isaiah’s brother, he spoke to the cop after his sibling’s return home and was reassured that his brother wasn’t in any kind of trouble and that he just needed help getting back home.
At 3.18 am, shortly after Isaiah’s encounter with the deputy, the same deputy returned to the family home after Isaiah called the police.
While the authorities revealed the call was marked as a domestic situation, NBC 4 learned from a police source that Isaiah was complaining about his brother in the call.
After the same sheriff’s deputy returned to the family’s residence, Isaiah was spotted walking away from his home. Following a confrontation, the 32-year-old was shot ten times.
As of this writing, the police refuse to release bodycam footage because the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, they provided scant details about the incident and refused to comment on what led the deputy to shoot the man ten times.
According to the Virginia State Police, who is leading the investigation, Brown was unarmed when he got shot ten times by the same deputy.
“The sheriff’s deputy attempted to verbally engage Brown, and it was during this encounter that the deputy discharged his service weapon,” the state police said in a statement.
Though Brown survived the shooting, he is currently fighting for his life in the ICU. Meanwhile, his family and the public called for the release of bodycam footage.
