The first and biggest underwater restaurant in Europe is now open! ‘Under’ has a total seating capacity for 100 guests.
It just opened a few days ago but people are already adding the underwater restaurant to their Norway destination lists.
Half-sunken into the sea, the 111-foot long building breaks the surface of the water and rests on the seabed.
The structure is constructed to fully integrate into its marine environment as the roughness of the concrete shell will act as an artificial reef, allowing kelp and limpets to stay.
Thick concrete walls let it withstand shock and pressure from the strong sea conditions. It also features a massive panoramic window for a breathtaking view of the seabed as it changes with the seasons.
Snøhetta Founder and Architect, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen said: “Under is a natural progression of our experimentation with boundaries.
“As a new landmark for Southern Norway, Under proposes unexpected combinations of pronouns and prepositions, and challenges what determines a person’s physical placement in their environment.”
“In this building, you may find yourself underwater, over the seabed, between land and sea. This will offer you new perspectives and ways of seeing the world, both beyond and beneath the waterline.”
One internet user said: “Wow, I want to go there, like soon… but my bank account said to go to work instead.”
Another wrote: “This is amazingly beautiful! I so want to go there. And the food looks amazing too!”
A third said: “Awesome! Too bad people will find what they don’t like about it even when you put your heart and soul into your restaurant. I cant wait to go, see the unique atmosphere and taste the fine art-food.”
