A family has accused a Universal Orlando actor in Despicable Me costume of making a racist hand gesture.
A Hispanic family from Florida has slammed a Universal Orlando actor in Despicable Me costume for making a hand gesture that is associated with white supremacists.
The family said their five-year-old daughter took pictures with a Universal Orlando worker who was dressed as Despicable Me’s famous character – Felonious Gru.
They didn’t notice at the time but when they saw the pictures later, they noticed the actor making the “OK” symbol that is associated with white supremacists.
The family decided to look at the pictures after a similar incident was reported where another family accused a Universal Orlando actor in Despicable Me costume for making a racist hand gesture.
A family from Colorado visited the park last year with their two kids.
The children took pictures with the Despicable Me’s famous character – Felonious Gru.
The family noticed the character making the racist hand gesture after months.
They complained about the incident and Universal Orlando apologized for the incident.
They also fired the actor who made the racist hand gesture.
A spokesperson for Universal Orlando said: “We never want our guests to experience what this family did.
This is not acceptable and we are sorry – and we are taking steps to make sure nothing like this happens again.”
However, it is not known whether the actor was the same in both cases.
Lisa Riddle, the lawyer representing both families, said kids love meeting these characters and doing something like this with kids is heartbreaking.
She demanded to reveal the identity of the actor who involved in both cases.
Lisa Riddle told The Sun: “Our families need a proper investigation so that incidents like this are not allowed to continue.
The guy or guys behind the mask need to be revealed.”
