A UPS driver in New Orleans is going viral for his adorable posts on social media.
Jason Hardesty has been curating a collection of photos captured during his UPS driving routes, posing with dogs that he meets along the way with the hashtag #pupsofjay.
Hardesty has been posing with dogs since 2017 but Jami Attenburg recently brought attention to his adorable photo series on Twitter.
“I have extremely important news and it is this: my sweet UPS guy has a hashtag of all the dogs in the neighborhood,” wrote Altenburg with a link to his Instagram account.
That hashtag has become something of a local fixture, which gained national attention after writer Jami Attenberg tweeted about it.
“My old route that I was on, the dogs in that area weren’t really too friendly. The would always want to be guard dogs, or aggressive dogs because it was more of a family area,” Hardesty told INSIDER.
“But when they moved me to a certain part of town which has not as many families, the dogs are a lot nicer.”
On his new route, things totally changed.
“I realized they would let you pick them up and pet them, ” he said. “So I guess maybe a few years ago I started throwing up a dog on it every week. Just a cute pup.”
Even though he meets many Good Dogs, Hardesty limits himself to one post a week.
“I don’t want my account to be known as a dog account, but I’ll still find a cute dog and post it that week,” he said of his content strategy.
Hardesty said that ideally, he likes to post around 6 p.m. on Fridays, right when everyone is getting out of work, which he thinks is a nice way to end the week.
Recently, though, he had a standout encounter with a set of corgis that was about to leave the neighborhood.
“There are two dogs,” he said of the former regulars on his route.
“One of them really loved me and the other was really shy. But when they moved away, the second one finally let me play with her and pet her, like two days before they moved. That was really cool.”
But for all the pups he sees during his day job, Hardesty doesn’t have a pup of his own.
“I don’t have the time to take care of a dog,” he said. “That’s why I play with other people’s when I can.”
