US Recorded More Than 1,490 Coronavirus Deaths In 24 Hours As Number Of Confirmed Cases Jumped To Over 310,000


The United States set a heartbreaking global record with the number of coronavirus deaths jumping by 1,497 in only 24 hours, taking the death toll over 8,500.

Hospital corridors in New York City were littered with body bags containing bodies of victims.

On April 4, the death toll in the US jumped to 8,503 and the number of known cases skyrocketed by more than 33,324, leaving over 311,600 Americans infected by COVID-19.

By April 6, the total number of confirmed cases in the US is 336,851 with 9,620 deaths, and New York alone has 123,018 cases with 4,159 fatalities.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that coronavirus is ‘like a fire spreading’ as the state continues to be ruined and savaged by the virus.

The epicenter for the outbreak in the US is yet to reach its ‘apex’ but New York hospitals and morgues are already near their breaking points.

The rate of confirmed cases showed no signs of slowing down. Long Island even saw a spike in cases as Cuomo warned that it ‘is the area that is growing.’

As the number of fatalities increases, morgues have reported becoming ‘overwhelmed’ with the bodies that are kept in refrigerated trucks for days.

Because the virus is very contagious, people with critically ill family members are unable to be with them in their last hours.

Due to strict social distancing rules, funerals cannot be held and family members are left morning from afar.

Concerns are increasing that there will be a shortage of ventilators as hospitals temporarily ran out of protective gowns, blood pressure medication, and the main sedative for patients on ventilators, according to the New York Times.

Cuomo begged for more healthcare workers to come to the state in its time of need. He also said that he will sign an executive order allowing medical students who were about to graduate to start practicing now.
