The United States of America has surpassed China to become the country with the highest number of coronavirus cases in the world.
Although the outbreak started in China, they quickly started following quarantine, social distancing, and disinfection practices that gradually declined the surge in numbers.
However, it seems like people all across the globe, especially in the United States, didn’t take quarantine measures seriously.
America has now reached more than 83,000 positive cases of coronavirus as compared to China’s 81,285 cases. Italy is just behind America and China with 80,589 cases, followed by Spain with 56, 197 coronavirus patients.
If it keeps going at this rate, the World Health Organization has warned that the United States could become the epicenter of the pandemic.
Margaret Harris, a spokesperson for the WHO, said that officials are concerned with the rapid surge of coronavirus cases in the US. With a significant spurt in virus cases in America, it has the potential to be the epicenter.
She said that this is not the case yet, but the country does have the potential, seeing the increase in the number of people with the virus.
Before that, Europe was declared the epicenter for the virus due to the number of cases in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.
The most part of the country has been plunged into lockdown, with services like restaurants, delivery, social gathering places, and other non-essential services being closed until further notice.
The citizens are told to remain inside their homes unless it is necessary.
It is believed that a significant number of virus cases have occurred in the past two weeks. A total of 1182 people have already died in the US due to the virus, and only 1864 were able to recover among the 83,000 infections.
