Several animal rights activists were caught on camera screaming and pleading for help after the slaughter processing line which they chained themselves to began to move.
During the slaughterhouse protest that nearly turned out deadly, one of the activists “almost died” after getting choked by the lock.
“We need to stop this right now,” one protester of Direct Action Everywhere was heard yelling after the machine began to operate.
As the line started moving, Thomas Chiang, who got himself trapped into the lock designed for ducks, was pulled along the line until his head was pressed against a pole.
In an interview with ABC7, Thomas claimed that the device nearly decapitated his head from his neck.
“I was feeling my life leave my body as I was struggling to get out of that lock,” he said.
As the protester admitted, he understood the dangers accompanying their actions and saw the clear warning that indicates: “Keep Out, Biosecure Area.”
Nevertheless, the group broke into the secure farm in an attempt to expose the alleged animal abuse and increase their chances of being heard.
“We have to escalate all of our actions because this is a global crisis we’re under,” Chiang said.
“I think whoever the manager was, whoever was working there, was extremely upset that we were disrupting his business.”
The staff of the slaughterhouse, however, claimed the person in charge of operating the machine wasn’t aware that the protestors chained themselves to it.
After the incident, the protester was taken to hospital. While he is deciding whether or not to press charges against the slaughterhouse, plenty of people applauded the group for putting their lives at risk to protect the animals.
“Some very brave humans! Thank you for working to make a difference in this world!” one supporter wrote.
“Omg this requires lots of courage! People around the world are supporting you,” another one added.
Not everyone, however, was convinced by the group’s actions. “This isn’t bravery, it’s trespassing,” someone expressed.
