A vegan man found beef mince in his rainbow vegetable stew with kale and rosti from Morrisons.
Lukas Young was left disgusted after he found meat in his vegan meal that he bought from Morrisons.
The man slammed the supermarket chain as he posted a close-up picture of his vegan meal which had beef mince in a vegan group on Facebook.
He wrote with the picture: “I’d eaten it before and there was no soya ‘beef’ substitutes and fat dripped from it when I put it on to my plate.”
He complained to the supermarket’s manager but he told him to bring the meal so they can teste it if it actually had meat.
Lukas told Edinburgh Live: “I was shocked and disgusted when I realised that my meal contained what I assumed was beef. I had had the same exact meal before and it doesn’t contain any meat substitutes so I was pretty certain. I contacted the head of PR for Morrisons who arranged a courier to pick up the meal and send it for testing.”
A week later, they confirmed that the vegan meal contained meat and they offered Lukas £200 of Morrisons gift vouchers as compensation.
He said: “He called me back over a week later and confirmed that the sample contained meat. I was partly surprised they told me the truth but also sickened by the results. If meat can end up in their ‘vegan’ meals then what other contaminations might there be in their other food?”
However, Lukas said he didn’t accept the £200 of Morrisons gift vouchers as he would never visit the supermarket again.
A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We have apologised to Mr. Young because his meal did include a small amount of meat.”
“We’re very sorry he tasted the product before realising it contained meat. We believe this is an isolated case.”
