A vegetarian of 20 years has blamed a factory worker for trying to upset vegetarians and sabotage his company after he found a chicken nugget in a pack of veggie sausages.
42-year-old Matthew Barlow from Maidstone discovered that the unwanted piece in a pack of Quorn cocktail sausages was a chicken nugget after he bit into it.
“The texture seemed odd to me,” Mr. Barlow explained. “It was chewy and not like a normal veggie product’s texture. I have no idea what meat should feel or taste like any more.”
As Matthew, who allegedly hasn’t eaten meat for two decades, suggested, a factory worker must have put the nugget in the veggie pack on purpose.
After his complaint, however, the company carefully inspected CCTV footage and interviewed all staff to get to the bottom of the matter. According to them, no signs of foul play were discovered.
“Because they had the packaging they could determine that it was produced at night when they had a skeleton crew on. They pulled the people off the production line and interviewed them,” Barlow said.
“They reviewed CCTV footage and couldn’t find anyone planting anything and no one admitted it.”
As the vegetarian added, someone “must have popped the nugget in the package to prank a vegetarian.”
In response to the accusations, Quorn Foods spokesman confirmed that the companies policies make accidental cross-contamination impossible, adding that it was possible that the chicken nugget was “introduced deliberately by a factory employee” despite the company not being able to find any proof.
According to Quorn Foods, over 90 percent of their products are made at entirely meat-free processing plants.
Those locations with mixed production, on the other hand, have all been created in accordance with stringent segregation procedures approved by the Vegan Society and the Vegetarian Society.
