Poor Vernon Barnard was born with glaucoma. Unfortunately, even after a series of operations before he was even in kindergarten, he lost his vision. Vernon didn’t let that stop him from achieving his dreams as he worked on becoming a singer. When he went to audition on stage for The Voice: South Africa, it was time for all of his hard work to finally shine.
Vernon sang the song “Story Of My Life” by One Direction.
On the voice it is customary for the judges to be turned around from the performer initially and the judges were in for a surprise when they turned around and saw Vernon! One judge was incredibly surprised to see that Vernon was blind.Bobby van Jaarsveld began to break down when he realized that Vernon can’t actually see.
A fellow judge even whispered into Bobby’s ear, “Here’s your guy. ” Vernon’s dedication to his passion of becoming a singer along with his amazing talent has clearly touched Bobby so much that he’s brought to tears.[rsnippet id=”5″ name=”DFP/34009881/Article_2″]
Vernon’s parents are on the sidelines and couldn’t be more proud of their son! Vernon risked it all to come on the show and he found the success he always believed in.
Bobby was so moved by the Vernon’s performance that he begged him to join the team. He even got on his knees! Vernon, of course, accepted and both of them will continue their way in the competition.
It’s so moving to see someone who has faced so much hardship finally find the success they so rightly deserve. Vernon’s performance is truly incredible and we’re glad the judges could see it as well. Be sure to watch the performance below and listen for yourself!
