A man from Ohio died from coronavirus shortly after suggesting that the pandemic was hype and refusing to get a face mask.
37-year-old Richard Rose was an Army veteran who admitted he contracted the killer bug shortly after taking to Facebook to call the pandemic ‘hype.’
In his post in late April, the veteran wrote: “Let make this clear. I’m not buying a f***ing mask. I’ve made it this far by not buying into that damn hype.”
In another post, the 37-year-old expressed his displeasure about seeing “shit about COVID” when turning on his TV.
“I’ve gotten sick of turning my tv on to political smear ads and shit about COVID. So yesterday I turned my cable box in. I’ve also started snoozing people on here. It’s time to block out negativity,” he wrote on May 12.
On July 1, however, the veteran admitted falling sick and exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
“I’ve been very sick the past few days. Symptoms of Covid-19. This morning I finally got swabbed. I should know soon what the results are. I just want to feel good again!” he wrote.
On the same day, Rose confirmed that the tests came back as positive and expressed that his situation “sucks” because he “had just started a new job.”
The veteran passed away on July 4. In his final social media post, on July 3, he shared a message for “judgmental pricks” who began mocking and criticizing him over his decision not to wear a mask and make light of the pandemic.
“When you see me in heaven don’t s**** yourselves you judgmental pricks,” the message read.
As the man’s friend, Nick Conley, suggested in an interview with Cleveland 19, it was wrong of people to mock his friend after he announced he was sick.
“Rick is getting slaughtered online right now for his decision that he made not to wear a mask and that’s not right,” Conley said.
May he rest in peace.
