A veteran who has spent one year sofa surfing after leaving the Army has taken his own life because he was left homeless and “received no help.

According to 52-year-old father Wayne Snr, his 29-year-old son Wayne Green started feeling lost after he was discharged from the army shortly after he started living his dreams.
Following his return, the young man spent an entire year sofa surfing with the help of his friend who offered him space at his apartment.
As Wayne Snr claimed in an interview with The Sunday Mirror, however, his son could never accept the fact that he was no longer in the Army.
“We saw him going down and down. We did everything we could to help. But he had his pride and felt he was a burden,” he said.
“He didn’t have his own place, he was sofa surfing. He’d never speak about his time in the Army, we could never get to the bottom of it. But after he left, he seemed lost.”
Following Wayne’s time in the army, the 29-year-old sought help at Bolton Armed Forces Centre for Veterans where they “got him temporary accommodation but because of his age he was overlooked” according to Scott Hawtrey who runs the place.
According to Scott and his co-workers, the man was always polite, looked smart, and always acted like a “complete gentleman.”
As Scott added, the veteran would “always ask permission, whether it was to use the toilet or have a cup of tea.”
