The wife of former professional footballer and British actor Vinnie Jones has passed away after a 6-year battle against cancer.
Tanya Jones died aged 53 at her home in Los Angeles surrounded by her relatives after her health condition deteriorated in recent weeks.
Mr. Jones was next to her and he described her death as ‘heartbreaking.’
The two tied the knot in Watford in 1994 and in 2007, they decided to renew their vows.
It was in 2013 when they were both diagnosed with melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer. They fought the condition together and got the ‘all-clear’ two years later.
Mr. Jones spokespersons said to The Sun: “Tanya passed peacefully at the Jones family home surrounded by Vinnie, their daughter and other family members.
“Vinnie and the family ask for privacy while they go through an understandable period of mourning during this devastating time.”
Even though they managed to fight cancer off together, it was revealed that Tanya had been ill for quite some time.
She underwent an emergency heart transplant at the age of 21 and was treated for cervical cancer two times before she was diagnosed with skin cancer.
When they were first diagnosed, Mr. Jones said: “When it comes to things like this, women are stronger.
“Suddenly I’ve gone from the one helping her to the one that needs support.
“I take my strength from Tanya. She believes her life was saved to save me, and in return I feel it is my role to look after her.”
He also said that he didn’t know what he would do without his wife.
The star told The Sun in 2013: “Cancer is a horrible word to hear. I’ve faced the biggest and ugliest lads on the football field and been in some nasty brawls. But this is my toughest and scariest opponent yet.
“When the doctor said I had skin cancer, the first thing I though was, ”How long have I got?””
One internet user said: “This is simply dreadful news. This poor lady went through so much pain with her heath, and Vinnie stood fast by her side supporting, caring and helping her through it all. I just hope he’s got enough strength left to mourn for her in peace.”
Another wrote: “So sorry for your loss. I hope you get some comfort from knowing, there are more people who care.”
A third said: “25 years of marriage how incredibly sad. Sending love to vinnie :(“
