Recently, Vice President Kamal Harris has been accused for disrespecting Memorial Day by not acknowledging the fallen soldiers of the nation.
She posts on her social media platform, Twitter, to “Enjoy the long weekend,” with no mention of anything else.
She has also attached a candid photo of herself smiling. The tweet is posted hours after posting a tweet that had praised Midshipman Sydney Barber who has been pronounced as the first black woman to be serving as a Brigade Commander at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Harris recently had the honor to speak at the U.
S. Naval Academy’s graduation, describing the United States military as “the best, the bravest, and the most brilliant.” Although she has made this a public statement, a lot of critics were quick to point out that she failed to mention any of this in her last tweet.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday that is observe in order to honor soldiers who have died while serving in the military.A National Guard Lieutenant Colonel, Adam Kinzinger, tells the public that her tweet is “tone deaf.” He says to “enjoy your freedom purchased by many who died for it.”
Another user, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, says that even her son, 7, understands “what this weekend is about.”
Many have commented on her tweet already and it has gained a lot of traction, the audience’s responses are mostly furious at the vice president for not mentioning the fallen soldiers.
A former Republican congressional nominee, Kimberly Klacik, calls Harris “stupid” for the tweet.
She comments, “Long weekend? I know many are upset and saying this is disrespectful, but I believe you are really just stupid.”
Tony Lederer responds to her tweet with a picture attached, captioning it as “Don’t forget why we have a long weekend!”
Lederer is identified as a “Master Chief Petty Officer” in the Navy and the picture represents a picture of the Vietnam Memorial.
Another user attaches an image that shows an individual mourning for one of the fallen soldiers, adding “It is Memorial Day weekend – nor for enjoying – but for memorializing our fallen. Our brothers and sisters, who ‘gave the last full measure of devotion’. Please try to respect that.”
