A college student made headlines for the way he treated a man with cerebral palsy at a restaurant.
He didn’t think too much of his small gesture but it sure made a huge difference to the man he helped.
The two have developed a friendship, and it is thanks to kindness, compassion, and respect.
51-year-old Lee from North Carolina is an independent man despite his condition. However, without the use of his hands, he needs some help to eat properly.
One night, Lee and his mother Linda went to the 42nd Street Oyster Bar. Their waiter, a young college student named Five, noticed the mother struggling to feed Lee.
Five said: “Seafood is best eaten hot, so I didn’t want her food to get cold. I didn’t want his food to get cold.
“I just wanted to help a fellow man out.”
Linda appreciated the waiter’s gesture. She said: “He casually came over and asked Lee if he had ever had oysters… Lee told him he had not. So, [Five] asked [if he] could he serve him his first. It was smooth not to embarrass Lee. Just offering [to] share in the experience.”
Lee does not always let people feed him especially when they are not familiar, but that time, he agreed.
“I genuinely appreciated what he did, an act of kindness,” Lee expressed.
Linda took a photo of the incident and shared it on social media, calling out the student for being amazing and compassionate. Her story quickly went viral on Facebook.
Five doesn’t have a Facebook account and had no idea his act of kindness has gone viral. He started getting recognized and shared: “I’m going into the gas station and somebody wants to buy me gas, I’m like ‘no!’” he recalled.
“I’m glad I met Five, he’s a real good friend of mine,” Lee said. “I’m very blessed. It shows there are good people in the world still.”
