A 19-year-old brave waitress broke her own foot to save the life of an 8-year-old boy.
Hanna Pignato from Daytona Beach, Florida works as a waitress at Joe’s Crab Shack – a restaurant near the beach.
Hanna was working on the rooftop deck of Joe’s Crab Shack when she saw an 8-year-old boy had gotten caught in a rip current.
She immediately handed a customer her apron and phone and jumped down to save the life of the boy.
“Right when I jumped, I was like, ‘I’m done. Right, when I hit the bottom floor, it was maybe two feet, three feet,” she said.
Hanna broke bones in her foot and her lower back because of the jump.
Meanwhile, another Good Samaritan saved the child who was then taken to the hospital.
But, Hanna, who broke her own foot saving the child, doesn’t have regrets. She said:
“I was just thinking that could be my little sister I would hope someone would save. So I jumped.”
“I should have walked down the pier a little bit more and done it so much better.”
She said about the mother of the child: “She was screaming, and I was scared.”
“I know what it’s like not to have my family. I did not want her to go through that. I’m just happy and grateful.”
