The biggest grocery store Walmart is about to experiment with autonomous grocery delivery in a big way.
Walmart is planning to launch a pilot program in Houston that will use Nuro’s self-driving R1 vehicle to shuttle food from selected stores to customers who’ve joined the program.

Nuro said, in a blog post on the Medium website.
A “pilot group” of customers who opted-in to the scheme will receive delivery using the technology, Nuro added.
Houston is already using Nuro’s vehicles to deliver their service. In select zip codes, Kroger customers can pay a $5.95 delivery charge for their goods delivered by Nuro.
“We’ve been test-driving several different options for getting groceries from our stores to our customers’ front doors through self-driving technology,” said Tom Ward, senior vice president of digital operations for Walmart U.S., in a statement.
“This technology is a natural extension of our Grocery Pickup and Delivery service and our goal of making every day a little easier for customers,” he added.
The business said its 5G technology helps Telia “ to secure support a large number of data transfers needed to support the autonomous ferry.”
5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks, and it gives fast browsing experiences to cell phone users. it is also beneficial for the autonomous vehicle sector through its ability to process reams of information and data simultaneously and quickly.
“The data is analyzed so that the vessel finds its way itself and avoids any obstacles, and at the same time, the distance to the quay is measured so that the boat can safely moor itself,” Egil Eide, associate professor at NTNU’s Department of Electronic Systems, said in a statement.
