The most arduous part of purchasing goods from a store is when you have to stand up in lengthy queues, no matter how fast you had been in picking them.
It becomes even worse when you have some irritating presence around you or when you are in a hurry. But things are going to change, at least in Walmart outlets.
Walmart has announced a new system of ‘Scan and Go’ for its customers that will get rid of them from lengthy checkout lines.
The new system will allow customers to just scan and pick the required things and move away without waiting in any lane.
Walmart, like many other retailers, has already got self-checkout machines to save its customers from hours of wait in checkout lanes.
The self-checkout system benefited both the customers and the company, as the former found it convenient while the latter found it economical.
However, Walmart aims to bring further improvement in its system so as to speed up the shopping experience for its customers. The advancement will be entirely eradicating the need of even standing in lanes.
Using Walmart’s new ‘Scan and Go’ feature, the customers would be able to purchase by just scanning the things with a mobile app. They would be allowed to scan the required things as they stroll in the store and can just pay in the end without interacting with any staff member.
In order to deal with the shoplifters, the company will initiate a Mobile Express lane.
Customers utilizing the Scan and Go feature will have to go through the lane for a speedy security check, after they have scanned and picked their required items.
Walmart, who is always looking for smart ideas to bring comfort to its customers, believes that the shopping experience through the scanning app will increase its sales.
Moreover, the retail giant also hopes to save a significant amount of money as the advanced feature will reduce the need for personnel.
“We’re always looking for new ways to help our customers save time, and these innovations are just the latest examples of how we continue to invest in our stores and bring greater convenience to customers,” Walmart marketing manager Ray Korsch said in a statement.
The company is now asking more and more people to use the new system so that they can work out on its details through reviews and suggestions.
Though the new feature will be greatly facilitating those who want to have a purchase as quickly as possible, some people don’t believe it to be useful at all.
Many are calling for Walmart and other retailers to employ human workforce instead of promoting technical features like ‘Scan and Go.’
MCAW (Making Change at Walmart) director, Randy Parraz, said in response to the company’s statement: “It took Walmart almost a year to figure out what the rest of us already know: You can’t convince customers to do the job of a cashier just because you don’t want to pay for the work, especially when eliminating cashiers doesn’t result in more convenient shopping.”
