Everyone has seen 101 Dalmations movie, and almost everyone has teared up seeing the mother give birth to the adorable pups.
A dog’s litter usually has five to six puppies but this Dalmation mother gave birth to nineteen pups.
She has broken the record and had the largest Dalmation litter. The previous world record for the largest Dalmation litter was also from Australia help by dog breeder Cecilia Langton-Bunker’s dog named Miley. She delivered 18 pups in one go in Ballarat in Victoria.
She delivered the puppies in Australia last month. Yes, it was very exhausting for the animal to give birth to such a large litter.
Melody, the mum, gained 15 kilograms during her pregnancy period, so, Melissa O’Brien was prepared for multiple bundles of joy, though, she was surprised by the never ending supply from the C-section delivery.
She further said that Melody will retire now and will not give any more births anymore as her one litter was equal to two.
It took a team of 8 members who helped in the birthing and an experienced veterinary doctor Chris Wolmarans said that everyone had a puppy they were cleaning, resuscitating and dealing with.
The puppies came out all white without the spots as Dalmation pups only develop spots after a week of their birth. Even Cruella De Vil noted this in the movie. Out of the nineteen pups, ten were males and nine were females.
The puppies were named after Disney characters as Melissa wanted to pay homage to 101 Dalmations. The names included Pumbaa, from The Lion King and Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Till Monday, only six puppies were left for sale.
