Giving birth in water provides natural buoyancy, which makes the mother feel lighter and helps her relax.
It has been around for centuries in some parts of the world. Water birth is considered less painful for you and your baby.
Some maternity units have been offering mothers-to-be the option of giving birth in water as it shortens the first stage of labor and reduces the need for anesthesia. It usually takes place in a hospital, a birthing center, or at home.
But recently, a pregnant woman chose an unusual place to give birth. Pictures of a woman giving birth in the red sea went viral on the Internet, leaving everyone shocked and surprised.
A pregnant Russian tourist walked into the sea and gave birth, with the help of her husband and a doctor who specializes in water births. The sight left the beachgoers in the resort town of Dahab, north of Sharm el-Sheikh shocked.
The doctor was seen holding the newborn’s placenta in a bucket after the birth in one of the pictures that are going viral on the Internet.
Water birth is considered less painful but some doctors are suggesting that the Red Sea is not a safe place to give birth.
“I worry that this is a completely dangerous environment for the baby. Even in the presence of a medical professional, an ocean birth could be harmful.”, says Dr. Saima Aftab, medical director of the Fetal Care Center at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami
“Babies are just so vulnerable to infections and other hazards,” Dr. Aftab told Live Science
Giving birth in the ocean can be dangerous as the high concentration of salt in the ocean water could be potentially dangerous to the newborn baby. Water births are a recent new trend but this mother chose a very unusual place that shocked everyone. Though the health of the mom and the baby are currently unknown, we hope they are healthy and fine.
