The relationship between dogs and water is a hit-or-miss affair.
There are dogs who are so afraid of water that once they realize they’re about to take a bath, they start whimpering and shaking like crazy. You’d think you were taking them to the executioner’s block!

On the other hand, when a dog discovers a love for the water, practically nothing can stop them from playing with that medium and so help you God if you try to keep them away from a body of water for any length of time. Some dogs who are left alone at home have even been caught on CCTV camera dragging the water hose in so that they can make their own water park.
Some breeds are better suited for swimming than others, just as there are dogs who are built for running and speed. Bulldogs, Boxers, and Pugs, for example, don’t make such good swimmers although there are examples of those breeds who love the water nevertheless.
But Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Spanish Water Dogs, and Portuguese Water Dogs, are just some of the breeds who have an innate ability to swim. This is because these breeds have an inter-digital membrane in their paws that helps them move faster in water. Having any of these breeds as a pet carries with it the possibility that they may run to a river, sea, or pool without thinking every time you pass near such a body of water!
Dexter is a Labrador so he is of a breed that is built for swimming. But rather than unthinkingly diving into any body of water, this dog actually has skills and loves a bit of adrenaline in his life.
A video was taken that shows Dexter water-skiing along with his owners and he’s able to keep up with them like a boss. Despite the occasional wave that buffets his water ski, Dexter is able to keep his balance and keep skiing like it was nothing. It’s obvious that he’s enjoying himself and his owners couldn’t be happier to have their beloved pet with them as well.
The ways in which humans and dogs have bonded over the millennia has changed so much. But while the form has changed, the underlying love and loyalty that bonds them together remain very much the same. Dexter may not be helping his owners chase down a catch so that they can have a meal that night but he brings about the same joy and satisfaction as those hunting dogs of old would have.
