An isolated mother has shared a heartbreaking picture of her daughter waving at her from the street.
Dr. Laura Noonan, from Dublin, has a rare blood disease and is living in isolation as she can possibly catch coronavirus.
Dr. Laura travels to Russia every three to four months for chemotherapy and stem cell treatment as it is unavailable in Ireland.
She is currently living in a normal ward in a Dublin hospital in isolation after being transferred from an Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Noonan said: “I’m back to the normal ward now, but I don’t feel safe at all here. I think I’ll be exposed to coronavirus through staff even [though there are] no visitors allowed.”
“I wanted to share with you what I think is the most powerful and impactful image I have seen that represents lockdown Ireland through the eyes of a child.”
The heartbreaking picture that Dr. Noonan shared shows her seven-year-old daughter Freya waving at her mother who is in isolation from the street.
Dr. Noonan said: “That’s my little girl [Freya] and mother waving up to me in isolation on the second floor of the hospital from the footpath below.”
She said she is not allowed to meet her family members because of Covid-19 visiting restrictions but she misses her family terribly.
She called her daughter ‘brave’ and said this is possibly one of the saddest photos she has ever taken.
She said: “My mother and Freya, two of the strongest women I know, standing outside the hospital waving up at me, talking on the phone and even trying to take a family selfie from a two-storey height difference.”
She said earlier she knew that she would be reunited with her family but this time there’s no defined period.
Dr. Noonan said her family has been called to say their goodbyes a few times but she is fighting for her daughter.
She says coronavirus has left her terrified as she has no idea when she will see her family this time.
She said: “I am always in isolation in hospital due to my lack of a functioning immune system from the chemo and other medications. But I could see my close family once they strictly adhere to the hygiene rules and wear masks, gloves and aprons/gowns as directed.”
But, this time, they are not allowed to visit her.
