West Virginia is turning heads with its new COVID-19 vaccine incentive program.
According to media reports, plenty of states in the US are doing whatever they can to try and encourage citizens to get vaccinated against the Coronavirus. This includes lotteries worth multi-million dollars, free beer, scholarships for college, and tickets for amusement parks too.
However, you probably won’t believe the extent that West Virginia is willing to go through and that entails offering residents guns as a part of the new vaccine incentive program.
The state takes full ownership of the idea and mentioned how the lottery scheme will allow immunized residents the opportunity to win not only cash but plenty of rifles and shotguns too!
Authorities from the state spoke about giving at least 5 customized hunting rifles, alongside five customized shotguns as well via a lucky draw, which is all scheduled to take place before the 20th of June, just in time for Father’s Day.
State experts also revealed how the lucky draws will occur on a weekly basis throughout the weeks between June 20th, all the way up to August 4th. Moreover, authorities also specified how those with at least one single dose of the vaccine would also be termed eligible to register for the program.
In the same way, the grand prize of $1 million will be handed over to one resident too, similar to how other states have conducted a similar incentive-themed lucky draw to boost their immunization programs.
Also, West Virginia is willing to keep cash prizes worth $100 in savings bonds, as well as gift certificates.
This will be for all those aged between the 16 and 35 age bracket, who have received a fully vaccinated status. So far, West Virginia has 51% of its citizens vaccinated with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, as confirmed by the state health department. Hence, they feel such measures are deemed necessary to see a boost in the statistics soon.
