Brown and white sugars are probably the most popular sugars.
There is a belief that Brown sugar is way better than white sugar in regards to the nutritious value of the two.
While this is a prevalent belief, there is no proof of the same. Brown sugar contains water and definitely is way sweeter than the regular white sugar but which one is the best for you to use?
Raw sugar as we all know is extracted from the sugar canes. The nature of the raw sugar is brownish in the shade because it contains molasses.
To manufacture the white sugar, manufacturers take out molasses from the sugar. This happens by bleaching the sugar. But this does not mean the molasses cannot be added back. It can be added back.
So the only difference in these two sugars is the taste. Because of the presence of molasses, brown sugar tastes richer and sweeter while white sugar is dry and grainy.
When we go for the comparison of these two types of sugars there is no such a huge difference in the two. They just differ with 1% of water level.
This means when you take one teaspoon of white sugar you are consuming about 16kilocalories but when you go for 1 tablespoon brown sugar, you are consuming about 17 kilocalories. So this is the difference in nutrition value.
So now, depending on your choice and taste you can opt for the type you like. No, they do not have much difference but you should always go for the sugar that is suggested in your recipe or the taste might make a bit of a difference.
But if you think wisely the less sugar you use the better it will be. Having too much sugar will only help you get fat.
