Residents in Reduth, Falmouth, Helston, felt their houses trembling and heard a deafening sound of boom which they regarded to be as intense as a plane crash sound just before 6pm.
As confirmed by The British Geological Survey, the quake struck the depths of a region lying 3 miles southwest to Falmouth. The quake reportedly struck the interiors of the earth at a depth of 1.7 miles.
A Twitter of a local resident expressed that they heard a loud bang from under the ground and the windows rattled.
Another resident added that down in West Cornwall they thought of experiencing either an intense earthquake or a sonic explosion of some sort
The Local’s Experience
A resident, Steve Cowe said to the Cornwall Live that they were sitting in the living room watching TV and panicked of something to have crashed on house or somewhere near the house to express the violent shake they felt.
In no time, everyone rushed out of their houses and some also looked out of the windows to comprehend the situation. He added that the noise was too loud to be thought of a thunder sound and they mistook it as a sound of a crashed aircraft.
Aly, a resident of Helston, said to ITV news that she felt as if the earth was moving a bit, and the tremors started.
She also added that they thought of it to be a huge crash of which no one was aware. As they went out to reveal the situation, they found others as well investigating the matter. Initially it appeared to them to be a thunder or a car crash.
Some people who experienced the violent shakes expressed their feeling on Twitter.
A woman mentioned of having experienced an earthquake which did not turn her beer glass down proving that everything still was well.
Another explained the experience of this earthquake as an uncanny sensation.
Statistically, as confirmed by the British Geological Survey, 700 such quakes take place across the world and in UK alone the number amounts to 15 each year.
Surrey experienced a massive quake of 3.3 magnitudes earlier this year on February 27 at 3.24 am. The aftershocks rocked the region within 12 hours of the first major shake.
Scientists have recently discovered two fault lines that run straight under London which remain the source of catastrophes like these.
