It’s no secret that women have become more independent throughout the years.
No longer is the modern woman the housekeeper that she was at the beginning of the 20th century and the numbers reflect that. In the US, roughly 50.2% of Americans are single, that’s about 124.6 million people, and more women are single than married.
There are several possible reasons why this is the case.
1 – Women are more independent

2 – Women are enjoying their freedom and time more
Instead of being confined to the kitchen and having to deal with the husband and kids, women want to spend time for themselves. They would rather go to a spa, beauty salon, go shopping or attend a class on self-development rather than care for kids or clean up after a man.
3 – Emotional stability
The modern woman has let go of the stereotypical weepy image. Because of being more educated and having a whole vista of opportunities available at work, women are more confident with staying single without having to rely on someone else for sustenance. They would rather wait than marry someone they don’t love or respect.
4 – The rise of alternative relationships
Same sex relationships don’t carry the same stigma that they did even two decades ago. And as women become more open about these alternative relationships, they are less bound to the idea that they need a man in their life to feel complete.
5 – The high standards that modern women set
Having a degree or two and being able to earn your own keep instills a level of confidence and the feeling that you deserve the very best. That’s why successful women won’t put up with a man who she thinks will just bring her down from her current station in life. She would rather wait and be single than let that happen.
6 – There are men who are insecure about beautiful and smart women
There are still men who feel threatened by a woman who is smarter or more financially successful than they are and that would put off a lot of suitors. At the same time, most of these women won’t take the first step either because they’re already able to hold their own in life.
7 – The demise of the fairy tale
Women have become much more pragmatic now and don’t need to wait for their Prince Charming to come and rescue them. They know that they can pretty much do it themselves.
