Blaire Guidry is an ICU nurse and in times of pandemic, she has seen a lot happening that she had not seen before.
Keeping her profession in mind, she is used to taking care of the patients and their family members at times. But this came out as a surprise to her.
When a woman whose husband was dying of coronavirus denied a visit her husband, Blaire was left wondering.
The woman had denied meeting her husband in a bid to save protective equipment for the use of the hospital.
Blaire said that when they are turning the machine off, the blood children and the spouse of a person is allowed to meet them in the last times.
Blaire said “She could have come to visit her husband one last time. But she denied doing so.
She knew to get in she would have to cover herself in masks and other protection, and she knew how much the hospital needed it so she denied visiting him for the last time.
It was an absolute selfless act. It made me cry. I don’t cry, I am never crying, but this made me cry.”
The man who died was the very first patient of coronavirus in the hospital. Blaire said that her wife would call every single day.
She said “The patient was in his 70s. He was fragile due to his condition. His wife would call him every single day and she had no idea of what to do with herself. She was at home and she was hurting. That is when he passed away.”
Blaire says that the entire hospital is filled with patients of COVID-19 and they are on a shortage of masks and other protective equipment.
The news about the same is everywhere and the woman knew it too. The mortality rate is very high with the virus and we are all trying to escape that.
