A woman took her own life after a series of misfortunes and a terrible discovery that brought her to her knees.
48-year-old Kim Whitham from Worthing, England, was found hanging by her 47-year-old husband Darren six days after her beloved dog passed away.
As the inquest heard, the wife was through a series of misfortunes that presumably prompted her to take her own life.
According to the reports, the couple was unable to birth children. While Darren was able to accept this fact, it made his wife “very sad.”
To cope with the grim news, Kim devoted her attention to her horse, Pebbles, and the couple’s family dog, Lily.
Recently, however, Lily has passed away, leaving Kim heartbroken. Before the dog’s death, the woman also started losing her hair due to the condition known as alopecia.
“Kim had been married to her husband Darren and they had been together for 18 years. Kim and Darren were unable to have children and although he was able to accept this Kim struggled and it made her very sad,” coroner Geoff Charnock told the inquest.
“Kim also suffered with Alopecia and lost her hair. This was devastating for Kim but she soldiered on and was very brave. Kim never had any counseling but had been prescribed anti-depressants.
“Kim put a brave face on and tried to remain strong. Her horse Pebbles was a great comfort to her as well as their dog Lily.”
Speaking of the time the 48-year-old was discovered by her husband several days after the death of their dog, the coroner explained how Darren paid a visit to his friends believing that his wife was already managing the loss of their dog.
“Kim was going to go to the stables to see her horse. However, she never went to the stables. Darren arrived home just before midnight and found Kim hanging from the banister,” Charnock added.
As concluded at the inquest, Kim died from hanging as a result of suicide. According to the results of the autopsy, her blood alcohol content was nearly three times over the limit for driving at the time of the incident.
