Tarzan actor Ron Ely’s son reportedly called authorities to say his 81-year-old disabled dad had attacked his wife, 62-year-old Valerie Lundeen, before she was found stabbed to death at their home in Santa Barbara.
Valerie was found dead that their property, according to sources.
But the man police suspect of killing Valerie was later shot by police at the scene. The 81-year-old actor has been reported safe by the Sheriff’s department.
Ron and Valerie had been married for 35 years. They have three children together, Cameron, Kaitland and Kirsten.
Lt. Erik Raney said to CNN that Ely told police a relative was involved in the incident.
Authorities said that the suspect was armed and police fired shots.
“We wanted to make sure all the residents were safe while we searched the area,” Raney said.
“We had initially called in the air support unit and neighboring law enforcement agencies to come help in the search and when we were able to locate the suspect on the property of the homicide, and after the confrontation, we lifted the shelter in place. We don’t believe there is any further threat to the public.”
While searching the premises, cops found 30-year-old Cameron Ely hiding.
“We don’t know exactly how many shots were fired. We did have several deputies that were involved in the shooting. Fortunately all of our deputies are OK,” Raney added.
Ely featured in numerous TV appearances during the 1960s. He found his break by playing the main role in the 1966 series Tarzan.
It was in 2001 when he retired from acting but he returned for a part in the 2014 film Expecting Amish.
