How would you imagine getting into an accident in which your hand gets chopped off from your body and all you could see is blood flowing out of you?
This is just the same as what happened to a meat slicing worker who was working in his usual shift when suddenly an accident happened and his hand had been chopped away by the meat slicer machine.
Lawrence Cooper is a 23 years old man who works in a meat factory in Brisbane Australia.
While he was on his shift one day, suddenly in an accident, his hand was slit by the meat slicing machine and the blood was all that he could see.
He was then immediately rushed to the hospital as there was no time to waste.
A colleague of him thought rationally and quickly picked up his chopped of hand from the machine and stored it in a box of ice just with a hope that his hand may get reattached.
Lawrence was taken for surgery without wasting any precious moment and Dr. Theo Birch operated on him for 7 long hours just to make sure his hand is rejoined.
Doctor Theo said, “The surgery was not an easy one. It takes a lot to rejoin a hand. There is a mix of veins and arteries and it is important to join the right blood supply to the right one.
I first had to screw the bones together then only I could go on to untangle the blood supply and join them back together.”
Well, the surgery was a successful one as, within a day of surgery, Lawrence was able to wiggle his finger.
Lawrence said “After it happened to me, all I can remember is pain. It was phantom pain because I could feel it even after I was in the surgery room.”
