The sheriffs were responding to an early-morning call regarding a black bear that one family found sleeping in their home.
According to a report that the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook, the black bear “opened the door to the mudroom of this residence and somehow managed to deadbolt the door from inside. After being unable to leave, the bear began ripping the room apart but then decided he was tired and climbed up into the closet for a nap.”
And that’s where deputies found him, comfortably perched on one of the shelves and fast asleep.
“When deputies knocked on the window, the bear was not the least bit impressed. He slowly stretched, yawned and, unamused, looked toward the door,” they described. Not deterred in the least, the deputies still tried to convince the bear to leave on its own volition.
“Eventually, deputies were able to unlock the door in hopes he would hop down and leave,” the post continued. “However, their attempts were only met with more big bear yawns.”
Realizing that the bear was in no hurry to leave, deputies then called for back-up in the form of the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Park personnel arrived and promptly tranquilized the bear so that they could safely relocate him. The bear ended up taking a longer nap than he had planned but it was a win for everyone.
The sheriff’s office added that “The homeowners were glad he was removed in good health, but won’t soon forget when this intruder came looking for the bear necessities!”
The officers also reminded people to keep their doors locked while joking that the bear resembled Goldilocks in a sense. “This is another good reason to lock up, as we also have unconfirmed reports that he tried two other closets before he decided this one was juuuuuust right (kidding)! But seriously, lock up!”
Replaced!
