Prince William spoke to some of the first beneficiaries of National Emergencies Trust (NET) funding.
The 37-year-old future King has been appointed as the trust’s first patron and he video-called to small charities in Yorkshire and Wales to thank them for their hard work.
He chatted with Jacky Crawford who is a representative of Moorlands Community Charity based in Goole, East Yorkshire, William praised the public’s response to the crisis saying: “There’s nothing like a crisis to bring you all together.”
“I think Britain is at its best, weirdly, when we’re in a crisis. We all pull together and that community spirit and that community feel comes rushing back quicker than anything else.”
He told Jacky: ”You’re doing a fantastic job, please pass on many good wishes and big thank yous to all the volunteers.”
The Duke of Cambridge also had a conversation with Dal Dy Dir, a community farm in Powys Wales that helps people with disabilities. Natalie Webster, who runs the community told him the trust’s help had made ‘an incredible difference’ to the volunteers and charity staff.
William said: “Thank goodness you’re there, Natalie. It’s got to be reassuring for everyone when so much is changing around them to know that you’re still there and your team are still looking out for them. That little bit of reassurance goes a long way.”
To which Natalie replied: “We’ve really tried to encourage people to think about communities working together… We’re lucky in Wales, we have a really good community spirit.”
The Duke responded saying: “I’ve always felt that. The Welsh are always really good at coming together and looking after each other. You see that always in the rugby matches, there’s always a good Welsh national vibe going on there. I love it.”
Kate and William wished their fans a Happy Easter sharing a photo of bright yellow daffodils at Kensington Palace. They wrote, ”Wishing you all a safe and happy Easter #StayHomeSaveLives.”
