When Fox debuted The Simpsons on April 19, 1987, they probably had little inkling that 33 years later, they would still be broadcasting the show.
The cartoon is the longest-running American sitcom, and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series, in terms of both number of seasons and number of episodes.
It’s easy to fall in love with the well-written characters and witty punchlines that poke fun at American culture and politics. It’s not just something that entertains but also in a way educates people about the reality on the ground in a way that the news media often obscures. It goes beyond just being witty because the writers also inject relevant topics into their episodes so it’s easy to strike a chord with audiences.
One thing that The Simpsons has gotten a reputation for is their seemingly strange ability to have predicted certain events years if not decades before an event happened.
One example is the election of Donald Trump to the White House. This was showcased in Episode 17 of the 11th season, titled “Bart to the Future” and was aired on March 19, 2000.What’s even more freaky is that a few of the cartoon’s scenes were seemingly mirrored by the real thing such as that scene with Trump on the escalator.
It’s gotten to the point that whenever a major event happens in the US or around the world, people try to comb previous Simpsons episodes to see if there was an episode that “predicted” the event. In a way, The Simpsons have gotten on the same level as Nostradamus when it comes to predictions.
Of course, some of these supposed predictions are just reaching for conclusions but there are enough that seemingly fit the bill to be intriguing.
Nevertheless, this is not all The Simpsons has given us. The show has also managed to sneak in a few witty signages that mot may not have noticed but turn out to be hilariously funny once they’re pointed out. We present a few of them here for your enjoyment because they’re really good for a few laughs!
