A woman says she was detained by police for wearing ‘inappropriate clothing’ at the Acropolis in Athens.
British blogger Adebola Sowemimo says she was arrested by Greek authorities who took her out of the museum because of her clothes.
Adebola said a ‘false testament’ was made against her alleging that she had flashed her body by lifting her skirt – a claim she says wasn’t true.
“I’ve just been arrested by Greek Police based on a false accusation. The Greek police are keeping me in custody. This is racism at its finest,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I went to the Acropolis in Athens today and I was pushed out of the museum because I was apparently wearing inappropriate clothing.”
She added: “I was screamed at and pushed out of the building while being screamed at in Greek.
“Police were called and a false testament was made against me that I was lifting my skirt and flashing my body to the public. This is a LIE.”
Adebola also said that she had been arrested without a translator but her boyfriend translated for her. “I am supposed to be transported to court tomorrow for my hearing for absolutely nothing,” she expressed.
“I have no idea why I have been falsely accused of something I haven’t done.
“I have been ridiculed by the police. Provoked by the Greek police and absolutely traumatised by the situation.”
She said the authorities let her stay with her boyfriend before she was due to appear in court. Adebola said she had been ‘really uplifted’ by the support she received online.
“Anyways good news the case was acquitted!!! I am free!!!” she added.
