A Florida woman has been arrested for allegedly leaving a $5,000 tip on her boyfriend’s credit card after the two of them got into a verbal argument at a restaurant.
According to cops from Pinellas County, Serina Wolfe was having lunch with her boyfriend at the Clear Sky Café in Clearwater Beach, west of Tampa, last Thursday.
The couple got involved in a fight after the 24-year-old asked the guy to purchase a plane ticket for her so she can visit her home in upstate New York.
After refusing to buy her a ticket, the man placed his credit card on a temporary hold.
But when he lifted it back, his girlfriend used the card to give a whopping tip of $5,000 on their $55.37 bill. When he tried to confront Wolfe for the pricey tab, she denied having done so, the police complaint notes.
The unfortunate guy then reported the charge as a fraudulent transaction to his credit card company.
When the management at Clear Sky Café was made aware of the transaction, they said their server had been given the generous tip, and that it was too late to do anything.
After a complaint was filed with the police, they arrested Wolfe.
According to the arrest report, Wolfe admitted to using her boyfriend’s credit card to pay the enormous tip to the waitress.
“[The boyfriend] believes the defendant was drunk or trying to get back at him,” the report reads.
The 24-year-old woman is currently being held on a $1,000 bond after she was charged with 3rd-degree grand theft, according to court documents.
The staff at Clear Sky Café hasn’t yet released any statement about the incident.
A spokesperson for the public defender’s office has also declined to comment, saying they do not comment on the cases which are pending to be heard.
