A 55-year-old woman has been arrested by Washington State police after she shot another woman who attempted to steal a MAGA sign from her yard.
Angela Marie Conijn reportedly shot and killed 32-year-old Kamran Cohee after she reportedly caught her and another man stealing the sign.
Conijn was booked into the county jail on 2nd-degree murder charges.
The horrific incident occurred in Mount Vernon on Saturday night. Police officers from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office rushed to a home on Big Lake Road and found a woman dead in the driveway.
Investigators have said that the alleged shooter and the victim did not know each other but the fight started over a political sign.
According to court documents, Cohee and a man stopped in front of Conijn’s house to let air out of their car’s tires.
Conijn’s husband claims that when he saw them pull into their driveway, they believed that they were trying to steal his MAGA sign.
A fight then erupted between Conjin’s husband and the man with Cohee.
The alleged shooter’s husband reportedly told officers that Cohee and the man who had arrived with her started beating on his front door. That’s when Conijn came out and fired a gun towards their car.
However, the shot struck the 32-year-old woman, whose lifeless body was found 25ft from the road and 50ft from the house.
Conijn is being held in the Skagit County Community Justice Center with a bail set at $500,000.
Her husband, 58, was taken to a hospital for injuries but was also later arrested on assault charges.
The investigation was ongoing.
